My background in dogs has been more as pets than breeding or showing. And then, starting with my Aussie, I found you could “show” in obedience and rally. Sydney, my Aussie, got her utility title and now my first Kooiker, Brinker, is working on his. Since one Kooiker is great, two must be greater, so on New Year’s Day I picked up my second Kooiker, Haarlee. She is just starting in Puppy Agility along with the obedience training, of course. And Brinker has his UKC conformation title and so I look forward to showing both Brinker and Haarlee in the AKC as we enter Misc.
I’ve been a director on the board for the last two years and have seen a lot of changes and growth as we mature as a club. Miscellaneous status means lots of activities for the club. We have to host our own shows, organize our committees to better support the breed in areas such health, rescue, and even educating judges, and continue to grow our membership. Nothing can happen with only the board participating and I’m excited to see more and more members becoming involved. We need our members to lend their knowledge and willingness to learn as we, as a club, learn what it means to be THE parent club for this wonderful little dog. It’s an exciting time for our breed and our club and I hope to continue to help support it as a board member.
